Liquid coatings
Workflows informed by formulation and color evaluation in liquid coating systems.
MatchExactColor (MEC) brings scientific color prediction and practical formulation together in a tool designed to make complex color matching more approachable.
MEC's development began in 2012 with a clear goal: turn advanced models of light and material interaction into useful tools for everyday color formulation.
Its developer, Dr. Mahzyar Gorji, brings an academic background in color science and doctoral research on light–particle interactions, alongside practical experience with industrial coloring systems. Both scientific principles and real formulation challenges have guided the software's evolution.
MEC continues to develop as an independent software project, with an emphasis on thoughtful algorithms, usable workflows and meaningful results for people working with color.
Practical testing across different applications has helped shape MEC around real formulation needs, not just theoretical examples.

Matching performance depends on the quality and compatibility of the underlying colorant and measurement data.
A useful formulation tool should make advanced color science accessible to more people, not demand that every user become a color scientist.
Substantial development effort has gone into organizing advanced calculations into a clear, guided workflow. The aim is to help users with different experience levels work confidently and consistently.
Define a target using its CIE L*a*b* values, whether they come from a spectrophotometer, colorimeter or existing standard. No target reflectance spectrum and no direct instrument-to-software connection are required for target entry.
From generating candidate formulations to comparing and correcting recipes, MEC focuses on helping users reduce unnecessary trial-and-error work.
A note on color data: Target L*a*b* values must be interpreted with compatible illuminant, observer and measurement conditions. Formulation also relies on suitable colorant data; matching colorimetric values does not by itself guarantee spectral identity.
By connecting color science with a straightforward user experience, MEC aims to help laboratories, manufacturers and independent users formulate more efficiently, reduce avoidable material waste and make better-informed color decisions.
